Cabinet approves ₹17,000 crore for PLI scheme 2.0 for IT hardware

• The Union Government has notified the phase second of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware.
• The total budgetary outlay for the second phase is of Rs 17,000 crore, to be offered over six years.
• This is more than double the incentives compared to the first phase of the scheme.
• The decision aims at boosting domestic manufacturing of hi-tech electronics so that India may become the second-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world.
• The PLI scheme 1.0 for IT Hardware was approved in February 2021 by the government with an outlay of ₹7,350 crore covering the production of laptops, tablets, All-in-One PCs and servers .
