Ten more Indian wetlands designated as Ramsar sites; total Ramsar sites raised to 64
- India has designated 10 more wetlands as Ramsar sites recently.
- Of the total 10 new sites 6 sites are in Tamil Nadu and one each in Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.
- With the induction of these 10 new sites, the total Ramsar sites in India has become 64, covering an area of 12,50,361 ha.
- Designating these sites as Ramsar will help in conservation and management of wetlands and wise use of their resources.
