PM Modi launches Rs 13,000 Crores PM Vishwakarma Scheme at New Delhi
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi officially launched the Central Sector Scheme “Pradhan Mantri (PM) Vishwakarma” on September 17, 2023 at New Delhi, on the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.
The scheme aims to provide government support to traditional artisans & craftsmen (or ‘Vishwakarmas’) in all sectors, especially in fisheries sector,to grow their business.
The total outlay of the scheme is Rs 13,000 Crores.
Under this scheme, workers will be provided a
toolkit incentive of ₹15,000,
collateral-free credit support up to ₹1 lakh (first tranche) and ₹2 lakh (second tranche) at a concessional interest rate of 5%,
incentive for digital transactions and marketing support.
The beneficiaries will get recognition through a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card
This will help to help enhance the skills of workers and help them avail loans easily to empower them financially.
Initially, 18 traditional trades will be covered. These include
carpenter (Suthar);
boat maker;
armourer;
blacksmith;
hammer and tool kit maker;
locksmith;
goldsmith;
potter (Kumhaar);
sculptor, stone breaker;
cobbler;
mason;
basket/mat/broom maker/coir weaver;
doll and toy maker (traditional);
barber;
garland maker;
washerman;
tailor ; and
fishing net maker.
