India Ranks 47th Globally in Mobile Internet Speeds; UAE Tops: Ookla Speedtest Global Index
- India has been ranked 47th out of 145 countries in the global mobile internet speed rankings by Ookla, the US based company behind Speedtest of internet connection.
- The Ookla Speedtest Global Index shows the data as of August 2023.
- India’s rank is 72 places up from 119th place in 2022.
- As per the index, India’s median download speeds improved from 13.87 Mbps (megabit per second) in September 2022 to 50.21 Mbps in August 2023.
- India’s remarkable feat is attributed to the recent launch of 5G services within the country, which helped the country’s download speed performance to increase by 3.59 times.
- United Arab Emirates (UAE) has topped this index with the download speed of 210.89 Mbps.
